With our steering box being designed in 21st century we have been able to make this unit less bulky and with no external pipe but still fit and work exactly the same as replacement to the original Land Rover units. As these use the latest techonology in both design and manufacture, these also do feel tighter on the road with less freeplay which improves the overall drive of your Land Rover. This is exclusive to us which we have had designed to eliminate the vulnerable external pipe. This external pipe has been built internally into our casting.
When Land Rover originally designed their box this oil way was missed out of the casting on initial design so to save the expensive cost of re casting the main casing, they just made this oil way external via a steel pipe as a cost saving exercise. However we have had this steering box designed as Land Rover intended all those years ago so this just runs internally via an internal oil way. This means there 2 less threaded joints to leak and also no external pipe which can get damaged or flattened and therefore either leak or block the fluid. Also being brand new, there is no need to worry about the quality of a "Reconditioned" steering box. Over the years we have fitted many reconditioned steering boxes (as new ones have always been so expensive) and it has been pretty much pot luck whether you get one that works without leaking.
So no need to worry if the re con company has properly re chromed the inner shaft or replaced all the wearing parts. This is a direct replacement for all Adwest 4 bolts steering boxes as well as the earlier 3 Bolt and 6 Bolt steering boxes. The tightness of the drop arm nut needs to be done to 176Nm and must be re checked after use. As with any component such as steering or brakes etc, the steering box must be fitted in accordance with what Land Rover instructs and it is recomended to be fitted by a professional.
